What's Up with "Cozy" Mysteries???

Ok, maybe I'm just behind the times but I've noticed in the last two years a plethora of folks reading and writing "cozy" mysteries. I've gotten hooked myself. If you haven't discovered these little treasures for yourself here is a little about them and a few of my favorite authors.

The definition of Cozy books is according to Wikipedia: Cozy mysteries, also referred to as "cozies", are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex and violence are downplayed or treated humorously, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community. Cozies thus stand in contrast to hardboiled fiction, which features violence and sexuality more explicitly and centrally to the plot. The term "cozy" was first coined in the late 20th century when various writers produced work in an attempt to re-create the Golden Age of Detective Fiction.[1]

The first ones I discovered were written by Hope Callaghan and she is still my favorite author of cozies. This woman is amazing! She writes at least one book a month! They are good little books too. Here's her Amazon Author page:

Sandy Scott is another fav. Her website is here: Sandy Scot Cozy Mysteries

Here is a whole website dedicated to Cozy Mysteries: Cozy Mystery List

Do a search for Cozy Mysteries on Amazon and you will probably find some free books!

If you are addicted to cozies tell us your favorites in the comment section below.

More ways to get books for free

I have signed up for so many free Kindle (other e-readers too) books that I may not live long enough to read them all. With all the books on my kindle and the deals in the books aisle at the new Ollie's Army Store near me, I may be reading more than I'm writing.

Seriously, if you have an Ollie's Army store nearby you should check out the books. Honestly, books are about all I buy there but I have found some really good ones for really cheap! I'm talking less than $5.00 each. They have adult coloring books too...something else that I can get lost in if I'm not careful. Check out this post on my other blog about coloring books.

I remembered another site for free and cheap kindle books too. Bargain Booksey is fun because you can browse by genre, author or collections. In the email I received from them today was a link to a "Cozy" Mystery set of 5 books for .99¢ - now that's a deal.

If you have a favorite book site please share it in the comments section below.

I love "cozy" mystery as well as "cozy" romance novels. They are good clean reads and there are so many authors who make a really good living writing these. Most of them offer the new ones free when they are first published (it's a good way to get those important reviews)  Here are a couple of my favorite authors. You will need to sign up for their newsletters to get the free books and believe me it is worth it.
